Next Steps
How can I become a part of the life of the church?
It is important for everyone to find a supportive group of followers to surround themselves with and becoming a member of your local New Testament church is a crucial step in your growth as a Christian.
The initial action for you to take is come visit with us. If you do not have a home church, we would love to see you, no matter where you are from or who you are. After prayerful consideration, if you feel like this is the place that God has for you and your family, we encourage everyone to talk with Pastor James about making this move public.
However, the first prerequisite to becoming a member at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church is first becoming a believer. Salvation is essential to church membership. Church membership does not save anyone – only the blood of Jesus Christ can and will do that.
We firmly believe that God places His children into a particular local body of believers. He has a purpose for every Christian walk and place for every Christian worshipper. When He places you in a local body, He meshes those hearts together as one. And when He does, it just “fits like a glove.”
I have accepted Christ, what are my next steps?
Upon becoming a believer, the first step of obedience in beginning your journey with Jesus is baptism. We believe in baptism by immersion. This means to be completely submerged under the water and brought back up. We require that a believer be baptized by immersion before becoming a member. Neither baptism nor church membership will save you – only salvation will do that.
Baptism publicly professes your faith in Jesus Christ. This is done in obedience to the command of Jesus Christ (Matt. 28:19). In addition, declaring your faith in Christ is good for your faith. Declaring your faith will deepen your faith. Confessing your faith will confirm your faith. Sharing your faith will strengthen your faith.
We strive to motivate a new member to become an avid student of the Bible and an uncompromising doer of God’s Word. We have a mid-week Bible Study and prayer meeting every Wednesday night at 7 pm. This is a time of more intimate fellowship with each other and an opportunity to study Scripture together and meditate upon His Word. We feel this is an essential part of the life of a Christian, and an encouraging element that you cannot receive anywhere else.
How can I get involved?
It is possible to be a member of a church, but never be part of the team that makes the church function properly. Spiritual growth happens when you move from being a receiver to being a producer.
A member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church will find many opportunities to serve, both inside and outside of the church. We strive to stand as “salt and light” (Matt. 5:13-16) to our community, our county, and even our country. There are multiple ways to give yourself to the service of furthering the Kingdom of God from greeting, cooking, and teaching to praying, choir, and children’s ministry.
